What is an Empath?

Fairy Garden – Bryan Vest – 2020

As we all know, the Internet is full of everyone’s wonderful opinions about, well, everything. Everything from how to write your articles and posts to sound just like them, or maybe game the system to get a few more followers. On from there we could find posts about investing in crypto currency and the current state of the country that the author lives in on to world views about every subject known to the human race.

One topic that comes up every now and then discusses empathy and people who call themselves empaths. There are many arguments for and against calling ones self and empath. For those that do not know, empath’s are people that claim to be able to feel and absorb the feelings of others to the point of knowing quite near exactly how they are feeling. In some cases, with a little bit of history the empath can know why the person feels the way they do. Happy, sad, depressed, anxious, and every other feeling, empaths say they can feel and at times their mood will follow the mood or moods of people that they are around. From what I have read and viewed with my own eyes I believe most people that claim empathic ability are probably introverts or at least not social butterflies. This statement is based on just a handful of people I know and some research I have done, nothing at the university level, just the surface and my feelings.

But, there are those who say that those that who claim empathic ability are full of shit and just looking for attention. But, to make this statement you have to define what an empath is. Not what a dictionary or some research shows but what you believe in your heart.

I myself have a bit of what might be seen as empathic ability. But, is it a metaphysical power, situational awareness, magic, or a combination of all three?

I do not believe that there is any magic involved. I think a lot of people have it in their heads that all empaths are like Deanna Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation, but this is far from the case.

My view is that empathy is a real thing and empathetic people exist. Some may think they have a connection to the metaphysical universe that give them this ability, but I think it is something completely human. This is what I believe many people call, being in touch. As in, being in touch with your inner self, being in touch with the universe, being in touch with your fellow humans. Or, as one possibility I mentioned above, situational awareness, or in the case of empath’s, hyper situational awareness.

A very high level of situational awareness can almost present as another sense available to humans. Unfortunately in my view this sixth or seventh or eighth sense has been programmed out of so many people in the western world it is now something they are afraid of so they bash others who do have this other human sense of caring and being able to nearly feel the vibrations of others.

Many parts of “advanced” society have been trained to not care about others. To turn off that part of their brain because everything is all about them and no one else. The minds of many have been broken by the system that is supposed to protect us. But are they protecting us from them or them from us?

The human mind is much more powerful than we know. No we do not only use 10% of our brains, but the whole 100% has been conditioned to follow the pack, work until you die. The system has trained that speaking out against the pack will leave you ostracized and your life destroyed. The system has trained us to fear them and each other. The system has trained us not to speak our mind, especially if you are speaking against the pack. The system has beat empathy out of a major percentage of the population. So, in the end, my opinion is that those that do not believe empaths exists are afraid of what they do not understand.
